Can You Safely Lose 30 Pounds in 30 Days?

30 days weight lossSpend five minutes doing the research and you’ll quickly see that conventional weight loss thinking says the only safe way to lose weight is at the rate of 2 pounds a week.

If faster weight loss is accomplished using drugs, or chemicals, or harsh stimulants such as ephedra, ma huang and caffeine, then conventional thinking is correct. What good is losing 15 pounds or more in a month if you damage or completely lose the use of your liver or kidneys?

These “miracle” weight loss methods only result in a miracle if you don’t damage your bodily functions, or die in the process.

Having said that, there is at least ONE way you can lose weight quickly, while at the same time improving your overall health.

It involves a combination of a protein-rich diet drink, a common sense approach to “regular” meals, and the use of a Internal Cleanser to remove the buildup of toxins in our bodies.

These toxins are ingested by all of us in a variety of ways: bad air, chemically enhanced public water, pesticide coated foods, etc. These foreign invaders are isolated by our bodies in fat cells, where they do the least damage to our system. These fat cells are then surrounded by water (kind of like the way an old castle used moats to protect against invaders, only in reverse…the invaders are trapped in the Fat Castle, and surrounded by water to keep them there.)

Once the toxins are flushed from our bodies, the fat cells are then burned up as a source of energy, and the excess water is also absorbed and flushed in the same process. This can result is rapid weight loss (I lost 8 pounds in my first 5 days, on the way towards 25 pounds lost in the first 30 days, and 60 pounds lost in 100 days).

The other two factors that play into rapid weight loss is to make sure your body gets enough protein during a 24 hour period. The easiest way to accomplish this is by using a protein supplement (normally in powdered form) which you mix into a drink (or a shake or a soup). Figure about one gram of protein per pound of body weight.

At the same time, you’ll want to limit your intake of bad carbohydrates (think Potato Chips, Popcorn, etc.) and fat. This will cause your body to begin to burn the excess fat you have stored up. You’ll also want to eliminate all your sources of refined sugars. Sodas are the biggest offenders here, but coffee with any form of sweetener will slow down your weight loss as well.

For your normal meals, try and limit your caloric intake to about 600 calories. If you have two protein drinks during the day (breakfast and dinner) with a 600 calorie lunch and little to no snacking (apples and unsalted almonds are okay in small amounts) you’ll be on a 1,200-1,400 calorie diet, and your body will overnight become a fat burning machine.

Toss in a little walking (a mile or so to begin if you are in any reasonable shape, less if you are not) and you are only a month away from dropping as much as 30 pounds, safely.

Severe Obesity in Adults: Weight Loss Treatment and Tips

obesitySevere obesity is a serious medical condition experienced by people with a body mass index of 40 or above. Previously called morbid obesity, it affects an estimated six million American adults, or about 1 in 33 of the adult population. Associated with a range of complex metabolic disorders including type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance syndrome and raised blood-fats, plus other weight-related health problems, this condition should not be confused with overweight (BMI > 25) or regular obesity (BMI > 30). It is a serious disease requiring professional help.

Since I started my weight loss consultancy over 24 years ago, I have met and spoken at length with hundreds of severely obese individuals weighing 300 pounds or more. For most of them, their weight was a major source of discomfort – both physical and emotional – yet over the years most had “adapted” to their growing waistline and were resigned to remaining seriously overweight for the rest of their life.

For doctors and other health care specialists who work with obese patients, this type of patient-resignation to lifelong obesity is no surprise. But in fact it is only one of many obstacles to long-term weight loss. Many clinically obese individuals struggle with a variety of psychological issues to which they have trained themselves to respond by overeating. Some of these issues – for example, the early loss of a parent – require sophisticated counseling and even then may remain unresolved. In addition, many obese people struggle with family, educational or financial difficulties which further reduce their treatment and recovery options. Given the complex causes, responses and conditions surrounding obesity, it comes as no surprise that many conventional treatments remain largely ineffective. Sadly, many people of normal weight – including members of the medical profession – still find it difficult to accept the intractable nature of the condition, which only adds to the sense of alienation and guilt experienced by the very obese.

Obesity Treatment Options:

How effective a treatment is in helping severely obese patients to reduce weight, largely depends upon its ability to tackle the root causes of the condition. Most treatments deal with symptoms (excessive calorie intake) rather than causes (why obese individuals overeat).

Conventional Weight Loss Diets:

Now that the low carb approach championed by Atkins Diet seems to have run its course, leaving many obese dieters close to if not heavier than their initial starting weight, the efficacy of conventional weight loss diets is more questionable than ever as a means of reducing obesity. Whatever their dietary composition, most reduced-calorie diets offer insufficient support to help obese patients make the necessary changes to their eating and exercise habits.

Bariatric Surgery:

Gastric reduction surgery is a vital “last resort” treatment option for patients with severe weight-related health problems. It typically leads to very significant weight loss and health benefits, but it deals with symptoms not causes. So although it compels patients to eat less, thus forcing them to lose significant amounts of weight in the 2 year period following their gastric bypass or banding operation, it tends to have less success in dealing with the root causes of disordered eating which have built up in the patient’s mind over the years. As a result, about 2-3 years after their operation, a large percentage of bariatric patients find it too difficult to follow the recommended dietary guidelines and end up regaining most if not all their starting weight.

Obesity Drug Treatment:

The increasing number of obesity drug prescriptions issued to patients shows that doctors continue to lean heavily on pharmaceutical intervention for weight reduction. Furthermore, with obesity now labeled as the “trillion dollar disease”, drug companies continue to invest heavily in their search for a scientific breakthrough. Yet clinical trials of FDA-approved obesity pills continue to show minimal long-term weight loss benefits for severely obese patients, almost certainly because drugs are not yet capable of dealing with the fundamental causes of disordered eating.

Does This Mean Obesity Is Untreatable?

In view of the limited success of conventional diets, surgery and drugs, does this mean that obesity is untreatable? No. It simply means that more specialized or support-based options are necessary. The first step in finding the best treatment option for any obesity condition is to talk to a doctor, who should be able to outline what specialized treatments are available. For example, there are a number of excellent medically-supervised weight loss programs run by hospitals and clinics in the US and Canada, that offer real support and counseling. Self-help support groups like Overeaters Anonymous (505-891-2664) or TOPS (800-932-8677) can also be extremely helpful. Alternatively, contact the American Dietetic Association (800-366-1655), or the American Obesity Association (202-776-7711) for further information.

Some Practical Tips If You Are Obese

For anyone who is 300 pounds or more, seeking medical advice and getting proper support is essential. Relying upon pills, diets or willpower alone is not enough. However, you can do a number of things to help yourself and improve your chances of losing weight. Here are a few suggestions.

Stop Telling Yourself That You Can’t Lose Weight

Whatever your size or shape, and whatever your history of weight gain, the truth is you can lose weight and you can keep it off. In 24 years I have yet to meet anyone who was unable to lose weight, although I have met lots of people who lacked the motivation to stick to their diet! The point is, not being able to do something is quite different from not really wanting to do it. Yet most dieters confuse these two things. They think they can’t lose weight, whereas in fact what they are really describing is an unwillingness to make the necessary changes to their eating habits. So stop telling yourself that you can’t lose weight – because it’s not true. The real question is: do you want to reduce weight, and if so, why?

Start Telling Yourself Why You Want To Lose Weight

The messages we transmit to ourselves in the form of thoughts have the same effect as radio commercials. The more often we hear a particular message, the more we believe it. Tell yourself every day that you want to lose weight and gradually it will become a bigger and bigger priority. But don’t stop there. In addition, tell yourself how losing weight will improve your life. Maybe your goal is to receive more male attention; or maybe your aim is to fit into a pair of regular jeans; or perhaps you think a leaner body will boost your confidence. Frankly, it doesn’t matter what benefit you think weight loss will give you, the important thing is to advertise this benefit to yourself at every possible opportunity. Start today and try it for three months, and I guarantee it will help you to lose weight.

Start Understanding Your Body Chemistry

There are three things you need to know about body chemistry and obesity control. First, the longer you go without food, the more likely you are to overeat later. So eat something small at least once every three hours. This reduces the risk of bingeing and helps you burn calories at the fastest possible rate. Second, the less chewy and more easily digestible a food is, the easier it is to overeat. By comparison, chewy foods tend to contain more fiber and therefore keep us fuller for longer. A good example of an easily digestible food is a creamy dessert. Even after a huge meal, most of us can demolish a serving of cheesecake or a bowl of rich ice cream, without much difficulty. In comparison, eating 5 oranges or 6 apples after a large main course would be almost impossible. So include plenty of high fiber foods in your daily diet. They contain fewer calories, they fill up your stomach, and they keep hunger at bay for longer. Thirdly, most women experience food cravings in the week before TOM. This is perfectly natural as well as foreseeable. So make sure you have an extra supply of healthy snacks to keep yourself satisfied. Above all, don’t try to deny yourself the extra food your body craves – you won’t succeed – just make sure you have healthy options available.

Don’t Try To Be Perfect

God doesn’t create perfect people, he creates humans. And humans enjoy tobacco, alcohol, double chocolate chip muffins and truck-sized boxes of movie popcorn. So unless you come from Mars, don’t try to be a perfect dieter because it ain’t gonna happen! Every dieter has bad days, bad weeks, and sometimes even bad months. But so what? Losing weight isn’t a race – it’s a journey. How long it takes to arrive at your destination is not important. The only thing that matters is that you do eventually get there. Besides, once you accept that your diet-wagon is going to lose a wheel from time to time, you can plan how to react when it happens. Whereas if you assume your diet is going to be trouble-free, you are less likely to be prepared when disaster strikes.

Stay Guilt-Free Under All Circumstances

Suppose you are 300 pounds. You start a diet, you start exercising with a neighbor, things go well and you lose 30 pounds, you feel on top of the world, then you have a huge bust-up with someone. Result? Your diet falls apart; you stop exercising and start comfort-eating. How can you prevent this from happening? Answer: you can’t. This is Life. This is what happens. All you can do is go with the flow. If this means bingeing for a week until you feel better, so be it. But whatever you do, DON’T FEEL GUILTY. Because guilt will eat you up and will keep you obese for ever. In my experience, a dieter’s initial bout of overeating is rarely the problem – it’s the guilt which it inspires that does the damage and causes them to quit. Losing weight should be a guilt-free zone, and don’t believe anyone who tells you different. On my weight loss program and forum there is no guilt, no matter what happens.

Join A Weight Loss Community

If you are connected to the Internet, try to find an active forum where you can post your weekly weight, keep a food or weight loss journal, swap ideas with other dieters and generally have fun. Many people regard weight reduction as a totally serious matter. But it’s not. It’s a journey from A to B. And just like any journey, it passes more easily when we have fun and learn interesting things along the way. My weight loss forum is a very supportive place, but there are dozens of other forums to choose from. One of the biggest benefits of an active dieting forum is the opportunity it gives you to express your feelings. You can vent about your personal success or failure and also show your support for other people, which is equally therapeutic. Losing Weight While Keeping Your Skin Firm

Considering you don’t have an excessive amount of loose skin already it is possible to lose weight and keep your skin firm in the process. The idea is to keep your body well hydrated day in and day out. NEVER EVER let your self become dehydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and NEVER EVER totally eliminate your carbohydrate intake. From my experience most people who have lost weight too fast by eliminating their carbohydrates ended up with a lot of excess skin afterwards. The whole idea is to lose the weight to get healthier and of course to look better with your clothes ON and with your clothes OFF. Here are some tips

1. Follow a well rounded balanced diet such as my insulin response diet located at http://www.tbfinc.com

2. Follow a full body exercise routine alternating with a split routine every 4 weeks. For example, full body routine 4 weeks, split routine 4 weeks, full body routine 4 weeks, and so on.

3. Considering you don’t have stomach ulcers and you are not on blood thinners you should also take ONE TEASPOON of cold arctic cod liver oil ONCE PER DAY with your evening meal.

4. Take 1000-1500mg of lecithin per day. Lecithin has been known to increase the elasticity of the skin.

5. Anything you can do to increase circulation will also help. Skin brushing techniques are very good. Do a search on the internet for skin brushing to get all the info you need. Deep massages are also good.

6. Most importantly if you are more than 75 pounds overweight DO NOT try to lose weight too fast. The more you weigh the easier it will be to lose weight on this program so ease into it slowly so you only lose about 3 pounds per week. Doing this will prevent the sagging skin. If you lose weight too fast you will end up with loose skin 90% of the time.

7. Some of my clients have done weekly body wraps with great success but it can get messy. You can do this as an option but it’s really not necessary.

As an option you can also take a supplement called collagen.

As I stated above one key to increasing the elasticity of your skin is to keep your body well hydrated. Yes, drinking water will do this. The average person needs at least ½ an ounce of water per pound of body weight. Possibly more depending on the type of exercise you do on a daily basis. The reason why so many people end up with loose skin after losing weight is because they go on low carbohydrate diets that will in turn dehydrate the body. If you lose weight and are dehydrated in the process you will see the scale weight go down but unfortunately most of the weight being lost is nothing more than water weight. If you are losing 2-3 pounds per week you are doing great. If you are losing 4-6 pounds you are pushing the limit. Any more than 6 pounds per week and you are sure to end up with loose skin after losing the weight because chances are you are restricting too many carbohydrates from your diet. Cutting out refined flours/breads and sugars will yield the best results.

Also, instead of getting on the scale every week to measure your progress go more by how your clothes are fitting. I always tell my clients to try on the tightest pair of pants they have and then follow my program for 4 weeks and then try them on again. After 4 weeks those tight fitting pants will be a thing of the past.Follow all the above and you will see satisfactory results.

Secondly, I do not see the point of simply giving you a generic weight loss diet plan which maybe unsuitable for you. For breakfast, my parents swear by only having fruits or juices until noon. This habit arose from the health book Fit for Life. Studies have also shown that having lots of fiber in the morning helps one to eat less for the entire day. I guess this method works for them as they still maintain enviable figures despite behind in their mid fifties.

Secondly, there is no point in watching what you eat for your weight loss diet plan when you are guzzling down calorie in your drinks! Need a coffee to jumpstart your morning. Find out how much weight you have been putting on, indulging in your habit and that is sufficient to jolt you awake. The calories in Starbucks Café Latte fatten you up with 180 calories. A serving of Coke lends you about 150calories whilst a canned drink sets you back about 130calories, Substitute all other kinds of drinks to water and you cut down a substantial part of your calorie intake.

What if you absolutely will die without having junk food? Allow yourself a daily but small quota of junk so that you do not go cold turkey. This allows for desserts, but it entails sticking to low fat alternatives for your main meal: a soupy dish over a deep-fried ones. It will also help to simply keep temptations away! Who can resist a bag of cookies or a tub of ice cream seating in your freezer screaming ‘Eat Me!’ Thus go through the food in your house and thrash the junk (hmm… no… give it to the neighbors as a sign of goodwill) and of course, remember not to get even more fattening treats when you go grocery shopping.

Martha Lewis (note her real name), 22, fresh out of an Ivy League university is now raring to take a shot at the real world. After making good grades and earning her degree, she feels that she now has what it takes to make a name for herself in the corporate world. Being fluent in Spanish and French, she felt confident about standing out and being noticed by the powers-that-be.

She also worries about becoming the “object” of office gossip and behind-the-back jokes. All these years, she was secretly terrified of being the real-life “Ugly Betty”.

After getting a job offer from a Fortune 500 company, Martha frantically went on a diet, or more appropriately, she starved herself. Without the benefit of getting a doctor’s advice or the services of a nutritionist-dietitian, Martha tried to lose weight by subsisting on water and soda crackers — for almost two weeks. It was not long after that when she was rushed to the hospital for severe dehydration and hunger. She did become thin — and sick.

Like Martha, many women go on a diet without the supervision of a health professional. Many starve themselves without even first getting the right information about the scientific and safe way to go on a diet. In some extreme cases, women fall into the “beauty trap” and then find themselves struggling with anorexia or bulimia — or both.

To help women who are conscious about their figure and who are equally committed to improve their health, it may be best to read the brief descriptions about popular and safe diet programs:

Points Diet – You can take any food type as you don’t exceed the allowed intake (points) for each day. Each food type is given a point equivalent on the calorie intake. This diet is perfect for vegetarians. However, weight loss usually takes time when one follows this diet.

Atkins Diet – This a low-carbohydrate diet that focuses on the reduction of sugar, flour, and corn syrup in the daily food consumption. Nausea, headache, and fainting during the initial stages of following the diet can be expected. These symptoms occur due to adjustment of the body to the loss of carbohydrates.

Low & No Sugar Diet – This diet forbids the consumption of “un-healthy” food with high sugar content. The diet is premised on the fact that most Americans eat sweet and starchy foods that have little or no nutritive value. These foods also contribute a lot to weight and fat gain.

South Beach Diet – This is the popular “low-carb” diet but it recommends the consumption of unsaturated fat and good carbs. It is a balanced and healthy diet program. The diet does not involve calorie-counting. On the other hand, this diet can be expensive and time-consuming to prepare.

The U.S. Department of Health actually has a Food Pyramid system that serves as guideline on how much a person should consume certain food groups. The food group that is located at the apex of the pyramid should be consumed the least while the food group at the base of the pyramid should be part of a person’s daily food consumption. The Food Pyramid is divided into the following four sections that tell you which food you should eat more and what food to cut down:

l Top Level – fats, oils, sugar and salt (eat the least)

l Second Level – eggs, milk, beef, pork, fish ( eat in moderation)

l Third Level – vegetables and fruits

l Last Level – rice, noodles, cereal and bread

There are a lot of diet plans out there but it is important to get complete, accurate information when it comes to your health and safety. There are some people who respond better when their diet is complemented by a regular exercise program and the use of doctor-approved quick weight loss pill. Unlike Martha, women should go on a diet primarily for health reasons and not just to get a lean, sexy body. After all, having an attractive figure does not automatically make someone healthy.
