<p> 3. Make sure you watch your carbohydrate and calorie intake. Make sure you keep track of your intake. Carbohydrates need to be kept low, as well as eating good carbs such as fruits and vegetables, stay away from your refined sugars, flours and processed foods.</p>

<p> &#8211; The long-range success rate for low-carb and other types of diets is comparable.</p>
<p> &#8211; Despite their acceptance, little data exists on the long-term efficacy and safeness of low-carbohydrate diets.</p>
<p> &#8211; Rigorous low-carb diets are generally not sustainable as a routine way of eating. Boredom most often overcomes willpower.</p>
<p> It is clear after reviewing the subject, that more, well-designed and controlled studies are required. There just isn&#8217;t a lot of satisfactory information available, especially regarding long-range effects. Strict low-carb diets generate ketosis which is an unusual and potentially stressful metabolic state. Under some circumstances this may cause health related complications. The diet you choose should be a blueprint for a lifetime of better eating, not just a hasty weight loss plan to reach your goal. If you can&#8217;t see yourself eating the prescribed foods longer than a few days or a week, then chances are it&#8217;s not the proper diet for you. To this end, following a somewhat low fat diet with a healthy balance of fat, protein, carbohydrate and other nutrients is beneficial.</p>
<p> If you do resolve to follow a low-carb arrangement, bear in mind that certain dietary fats are associated with reduction of disease. Foods high in unsaturated fats that are free of trans-fatty acids such as olive oil, fish, flaxseeds, and nuts are preferred to fats from animal origins. Even promoters of the Atkins diet now say men and women on their system should curb the amount of red meat and saturated fat they eat. <p> Another alternative to &#8220;strict&#8221; low-carb dieting would be to give up some of the bad carbohydrate foods but not &#8220;throw out the baby with the bath water&#8221;. In other words, foods high in processed sugar, snacks, and white bread would be avoided, but foods high in complex carbs such as fruits, potatoes and whole grains, retained.</p>

If things go the way they usually go during the holidays, you may have to join the post-holiday shopping crowds out of necessity! You won&#8217;t have a thing to wear &#8211; because nothing will fit anymore. </p>
<p> I don&#8217;t know about you, but that prospect always makes me cringe. I&#8217;ve been there, and I&#8217;d rather not repeat it. </p>
<p> Which is why I have occasionally approached the holiday season in a rather contrarian spirit when it comes to my intake of food. And I&#8217;m planning to do it again this year. </p>
<p> How&#8217;s that? Easy&#8230;</p>
<p> There are two major <a href="http://newdietadvice.com" rel="nofollow">weight loss</a> facts that work in my favor here: </p>
<p> Every pound I lose between Thanksgiving and early January counts twice! </p>
<p> It&#8217;s a matter of simple math! </p>
<p> As you know, those of us already struggling with extra weight can easily add 10 pounds or more during a few weeks of reckless ingestion of cookies and eggnog. I&#8217;ve done it before, and I don&#8217;t care to repeat that particular feat. </p>
<p> Now imagine this: Instead of adding 10 pounds, how would you feel if you were to lose 10 pounds instead. Or even &#8220;just&#8221; 5 pounds. You&#8217;d be way ahead of the game, wouldn&#8217;t you. </p>
<p> Sure, it&#8217;ll be a bit of a hassle. Maybe even a big hassle. But just for a few weeks. Meanwhile, if you keep the pay-off in mind, it will feel so worth it. </p>
<p> But it wouldn&#8217;t be half as good an idea if it weren&#8217;t for fat loss secret number two: </p>
<p> Most people&#8217;s bodies seem to respond very nicely to alternating high and low calorie intake days. </p>
<p> There are several diets that feature this technique, including renegade versions of traditional ones. Just check out the Wendie Plan, Wendie&#8217;s version of Weight Watchers, where she distributes the 35 extra &#8220;points&#8221; over just 3 to 4 of the 7 days, thereby creating quite some ups and downs. </p>
<p> The weight though will just go down, down, and down some more because that kind of &#8220;weight cycling&#8221; prevents our bodies from turning into metabolic slugs. </p>
<p> Imagine the potential of this little trick. You could work its magic by simply planning some diet days alternating with some less restrictive days &#8211; carefully scheduling the more generous allotments for the days with office parties, family Christmas celebrations, and so on. </p>
<p> That&#8217;s exactly what I&#8217;m going to do. </p>
<p> Yes, I know! It&#8217;s going to be hard with all the seasonal goodies around. </p>
<p> So let&#8217;s review the benefits: </p>
<p> If you DO lose weight NOW, it will count DOUBLE! </p>
<p> Instead of gaining 10 pounds, you could LOSE 10 pounds! </p>
<p> Net loss: 20 pounds, maybe even more! </p>
<p> Wouldn&#8217;t THAT be worth a little awkwardness around the punch bowl? Imagine being that much slimmer come New Year&#8217;s Eve! Imagine the dress you&#8217;d be able to wear &#8212; the one that hasn&#8217;t fit you in ages! Imagine all your friends having piled on the pounds in the meantime, wondering how the heck you managed to actually get thinner! </p>
<p> Go ahead. You deserve to look and feel great! Make that new and improved body your own personal Christmas present.</p>

<p> So, how do we go about losing the weight? Well, most of us are aware that we need to eat less and exercise more. Putting more calories into our bodies than we burn off in a day leads to weight gain. Cutting calories and getting exercise can help you get your expenditure and intake in line. There&rsquo;s certainly no getting around this basic weight loss principle. </p>
<p> But, research is showing that there are some foods that can help you lose weight, and other foods that will pack on the pounds faster than you can say &ldquo;calorie&rdquo;. I&rsquo;m not talking strictly calories here &ndash; I&rsquo;m talking about foods that help you burn fat or stay full longer versus foods that cannot be used by the body as energy, so they automatically turn to fat. </p>
<p> Let&rsquo;s look at foods that can help you. You might be surprised at some of these &ndash; they&rsquo;re not all low calorie. However, they&rsquo;re known to help you feel full longer or burn fat. </p>

<p> Nuts are high in fat, but it&rsquo;s HDL fat, which is the kind that promotes good cholesterol in the blood. HDL cholesterol helps rid the body of LDL cholesterol, which is the bad cholesterol that clogs arteries and leads to heart attacks and strokes. </p>
<p> Nuts are thought to make us feel full longer. In addition, they contain protein that seems to burn a lot of calories during digestion. Doctors are somewhat unclear as to how nuts work, but they do seem to have an effect on weight loss. </p>

One study showed that women who ate a reduced calorie diet that included 3-4 servings of low fat dairy products and exercised lost more weight than those who ate a reduced calorie diet with fewer servings of dairy and exercised. </p>

But, more and more, we&rsquo;re finding out that green tea may have lots of potential to help weight loss, too. </p>
<p> First, let&rsquo;s talk about what&rsquo;s so special about green tea. The magic is in the anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants are important because they fight free radicals in our bodies.</p>
<p>Free radicals are damaging molecules that are created as we convert the food we eat into energy. Free radicals damage cells and DNA, leading to disease, if left unchecked. That&rsquo;s why it&rsquo;s so important to get anti-oxidants in our diets each day. Fruits and vegetables are also good sources of anti-oxidants.</p>
<p> But, some of the most potent anti-oxidants around are those found in green tea. Tea anti-oxidants are known as catechins, and they make up about 25% of the weight of a dry tea leaf. Tea contains four main catechin substances: epicatechin (EC), epicatechin gallate (ECG), epigallocatechin (EGC) and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is the most abundant catechin in tea. </p>
<p> Health professionals favor green tea over black tea because it retains more of these catechins in their natural form than black tea. Black tea goes through a fermentation process that changes some of these catechins from their original state into one that is less healthy. It&rsquo;s these catechins that seem to have the ability to help us lose weight. </p>
<p> One particular study looked at Japanese men. All of the men were fed the same healthy diet for two weeks before the actual study began. Then, a 12 week study period began, in which some of the men drank one bottle of tea that contained 690 mg of tea catechins each day. The rest of the men were fed one bottle of tea that contained just 22 mg of catechins each day. All of the men continued on a healthy diet. </p>
<p> At the end of the study, the men who ingested 690 mg of tea catechins each day had significantly lowered their BMI, body weight, waist circumference and body fat mass, when compared to the men who consumed fewer tea catechins. The study concluded that the catechins in tea can help to reduce body fat when part of a healthy diet. </p>
<p> So, while we know that to lose weight we have to reduce our calories and get regular exercise, it&rsquo;s nice to know that there are foods out there that can help us meet our goals more easily. So, add some nuts, milk and green tea to your healthy diet, and watch how your body changes!</p>

<p>If <a href="http://newdietadvice.com" rel="nofollow">faster weight loss</a> is accomplished using drugs, or chemicals, or harsh stimulants such as ephedra, ma huang and caffeine, then conventional thinking is correct. What good is losing 15 pounds or more in a month if you damage or completely lose the use of your liver or kidneys?</p>
<p>These &ldquo;miracle&rdquo; weight loss methods only result in a miracle if you don&rsquo;t damage your bodily functions, or die in the process.</p>
<p>Having said that, there is at least ONE way you can lose weight quickly, while at the same time improving your overall health.</p>
<p>It involves a combination of a protein-rich diet drink, a common sense approach to &ldquo;regular&rdquo; meals, and the use of a Internal Cleanser to remove the buildup of toxins in our bodies.</p>
<p>These toxins are ingested by all of us in a variety of ways: bad air, chemically enhanced public water, pesticide coated foods, etc. These foreign invaders are isolated by our bodies in fat cells, where they do the least damage to our system. These fat cells are then surrounded by water (kind of like the way an old castle used moats to protect against invaders, only in reverse&hellip;the invaders are trapped in the Fat Castle, and surrounded by water to keep them there.)</p>
<p>Once the toxins are flushed from our bodies, the fat cells are then burned up as a source of energy, and the excess water is also absorbed and flushed in the same process. This can result is rapid weight loss (I lost 8 pounds in my first 5 days, on the way towards 25 pounds lost in the first 30 days, and 60 pounds lost in 100 days).</p>
<p>The other two factors that play into rapid weight loss is to make sure your body gets enough protein during a 24 hour period. The easiest way to accomplish this is by using a protein supplement (normally in powdered form) which you mix into a drink (or a shake or a soup). Figure about one gram of protein per pound of body weight.</p>
<p>At the same time, you&rsquo;ll want to limit your intake of bad carbohydrates (think Potato Chips, Popcorn, etc.) and fat. This will cause your body to begin to burn the excess fat you have stored up. You&rsquo;ll also want to eliminate all your sources of refined sugars. Sodas are the biggest offenders here, but coffee with any form of sweetener will slow down your weight loss as well.</p>
<p>For your normal meals, try and limit your caloric intake to about 600 calories. If you have two protein drinks during the day (breakfast and dinner) with a 600 calorie lunch and little to no snacking (apples and unsalted almonds are okay in small amounts) you&rsquo;ll be on a 1,200-1,400 calorie diet, and your body will overnight become a fat burning machine.</p>
<p>Toss in a little walking (a mile or so to begin if you are in any reasonable shape, less if you are not) and you are only a month away from dropping as much as 30 pounds, safely.</p>

<p>Our body is very dependent on what we eat and how much food we consume. Food is essential to our system, the energy it supplies is essential to the operation of every system in our body. But too much of one thing will develop into an overload which our body can&#8217;t handle. It is vital to protect this system or it will break down.</p>
<p>Unhealthy foods are more difficult for our body to digest. This doesn&#8217;t allow for the nutrients to be fully absorbed by the body. Chemical changes occur can be damaging to our body.</p>
<p>Healthy eating allows us to know what to eat, when to eat, how to eat. It is not just what you eat but also how you eat them. A relaxed method of eating in a slow deliberate manner allows our body to process the food well.</p>
<p>A well-balanced healthy eating diet allows us to have a healthier body and a healthier lifestyle. As we grow accustomed to healthy eating, we can notice major changes on not only the way we look, but as well as how we feel.Having a healthy body allows a person to feel more confident about him or her self providing a better outlook in life. The benefits are boundless, healthy eating is an option that no one will ever regret taking.</p>

Previously called morbid obesity, it affects an estimated six million American adults, or about 1 in 33 of the adult population. Associated with a range of complex metabolic disorders including type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance syndrome and raised blood-fats, plus other weight-related health problems, this condition should not be confused with overweight (BMI &gt; 25) or regular obesity (BMI &gt; 30). It is a serious disease requiring professional help.</p>
<p>Since I started my weight loss consultancy over 24 years ago, I have met and spoken at length with hundreds of severely obese individuals weighing 300 pounds or more. For most of them, their weight was a major source of discomfort &#8211; both physical and emotional &#8211; yet over the years most had &#8220;adapted&#8221; to their growing waistline and were resigned to remaining seriously overweight for the rest of their life.</p>
<p>For doctors and other health care specialists who work with obese patients, this type of patient-resignation to lifelong obesity is no surprise. But in fact it is only one of many obstacles to long-term <em><a href="http://newdietadvice.com" rel="nofollow">weight loss</a></em>. Many clinically obese individuals struggle with a variety of psychological issues to which they have trained themselves to respond by overeating. Some of these issues &#8211; for example, the early loss of a parent &#8211; require sophisticated counseling and even then may remain unresolved. In addition, many obese people struggle with family, educational or financial difficulties which further reduce their treatment and recovery options. Given the complex causes, responses and conditions surrounding obesity, it comes as no surprise that many conventional treatments remain largely ineffective. Sadly, many people of normal weight &#8211; including members of the medical profession &#8211; still find it difficult to accept the intractable nature of the condition, which only adds to the sense of alienation and guilt experienced by the very obese.<strong></strong></p>
<p><strong>Obesity Treatment Options:</strong></p>
<p>How effective a treatment is in helping severely obese patients to reduce weight, largely depends upon its ability to tackle the root causes of the condition. Most treatments deal with symptoms (excessive calorie intake) rather than causes (why obese individuals overeat).<strong></strong></p>
<p><strong>Conventional Weight Loss Diets:</strong></p>
<p>Now that the low carb approach championed by Atkins Diet seems to have run its course, leaving many obese dieters close to if not heavier than their initial starting weight, the efficacy of conventional weight loss diets is more questionable than ever as a means of reducing obesity. Whatever their dietary composition, most reduced-calorie diets offer insufficient support to help obese patients make the necessary changes to their eating and exercise habits.<strong></strong></p>
<p><strong>Bariatric Surgery:</strong></p>
<p>Gastric reduction surgery is a vital &#8220;last resort&#8221; treatment option for patients with severe weight-related health problems. It typically leads to very significant weight loss and health benefits, but it deals with symptoms not causes. So although it compels patients to eat less, thus forcing them to lose significant amounts of weight in the 2 year period following their gastric bypass or banding operation, it tends to have less success in dealing with the root causes of disordered eating which have built up in the patient&#8217;s mind over the years. As a result, about 2-3 years after their operation, a large percentage of bariatric patients find it too difficult to follow the recommended dietary guidelines and end up regaining most if not all their starting weight.<strong> </strong><strong></strong></p>
<p><strong>Obesity Drug Treatment:</strong></p>
<p>The increasing number of obesity drug prescriptions issued to patients shows that doctors continue to lean heavily on pharmaceutical intervention for weight reduction. Furthermore, with obesity now labeled as the &#8220;trillion dollar disease&#8221;, drug companies continue to invest heavily in their search for a scientific breakthrough. Yet clinical trials of FDA-approved obesity pills continue to show minimal long-term weight loss benefits for severely obese patients, almost certainly because drugs are not yet capable of dealing with the fundamental causes of disordered eating.</p>

<p>In view of the limited success of conventional diets, surgery and drugs, does this mean that obesity is untreatable? No. It simply means that more specialized or support-based options are necessary. The first step in finding the best treatment option for any obesity condition is to talk to a doctor, who should be able to outline what specialized treatments are available. For example, there are a number of excellent medically-supervised weight loss programs run by hospitals and clinics in the US and Canada, that offer real support and counseling. Self-help support groups like Overeaters Anonymous (505-891-2664) or TOPS (800-932-8677) can also be extremely helpful. Alternatively, contact the American Dietetic Association (800-366-1655), or the American Obesity Association (202-776-7711) for further information.</p>
<p>Some Practical Tips If You Are Obese</p>
<p>For anyone who is 300 pounds or more, seeking medical advice and getting proper support is essential. Relying upon pills, diets or willpower alone is not enough. However, you can do a number of things to help yourself and improve your chances of losing weight. Here are a few suggestions.</p>
<p>Stop Telling Yourself That You Can&#8217;t Lose Weight</p>
<p>Whatever your size or shape, and whatever your history of weight gain, the truth is you can lose weight and you can keep it off. In 24 years I have yet to meet anyone who was unable to lose weight, although I have met lots of people who lacked the motivation to stick to their diet! The point is, not being able to do something is quite different from not really wanting to do it. Yet most dieters confuse these two things. They think they can&#8217;t lose weight, whereas in fact what they are really describing is an unwillingness to make the necessary changes to their eating habits. So stop telling yourself that you can&#8217;t lose weight &#8211; because it&#8217;s not true. The real question is: do you want to reduce weight, and if so, why?</p>
<p>Start Telling Yourself Why You Want To Lose Weight</p>
<p>The messages we transmit to ourselves in the form of thoughts have the same effect as radio commercials. The more often we hear a particular message, the more we believe it. In comparison, eating 5 oranges or 6 apples after a large main course would be almost impossible. So include plenty of high fiber foods in your daily diet. They contain fewer calories, they fill up your stomach, and they keep hunger at bay for longer. Thirdly, most women experience food cravings in the week before TOM. This is perfectly natural as well as foreseeable. So make sure you have an extra supply of healthy snacks to keep yourself satisfied.
